100.3 Jack FM salutes the 2008 winners of the Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarship Contest:
Linda Hua,
North Garland High School
Ranked third in a class of 479 seniors is hard work, and Linda is no stranger to working hard and staying dedicated to her goal of one day working in the field of medicine. She has perfect attendance, a Texas Scholar, Honors graduate, and placed second in the local science fair in Biology. When Linda is not hitting the books she is part of a variety of school clubs including the Beta Club, National Honor Society, and Health Occupation Students of America. With such a demanding schedule Linda still finds time to give back to her community by volunteering at the Achievement Center of Texas, March of Dimes, Trash Bash, Dallas Arboretum and tutored children at local elementary schools.
Arraya Sinlong, Skyline Center
Arraya accomplished what some would call a difficult task of graduating 8th in a large class of 958 seniors. She serves as the student body secretary, yearbook editor, Asian Club President, and an active member of the Skyline Senate and National Honor Society. When Arraya is not busy with her studies and extracurricular activities she makes time to give back to her community by volunteering for the Special Olympics, Trash Bash and Trick of Treat for Humanity. Arraya plans to attend university this fall to begin business studies.
Yoo-mi Kim,
Marcus High School
With the goal of becoming a pediatrician, Yoo-mi is heading for the university life. Graduating in the top ten percent of her class, Yoo-mi proves that she has what it takes to accomplish her goals. In addition to her superlative academic accomplishments Yoo-mi is a student of music, playing the cello and the guitar. When Yoo-mi is not busy with academics or her music interests you can find her volunteering her time with the First Korean Lewisville Baptist Church Sunday School, the Lewisville Public Library, and serving as an assistant Korean school teacher.
Stefant Phonthephasone, Haltom High School
Graduating in the top five percent of his class, Stefant plans to attend university this fall to pursue a degree in International Business and Marketing. Stefant has earned numerous honors including the Distinguished Achievement Plan and the Career and Technology Department Award. Stefant is involved in the Business Professionals of America, Math Honor Society, National Honor Society, Academic Decathlon, the Art Club and National Honor Society. When he is not busy with his studies you can find Stefant giving back to his community by volunteering at the Salvation Army, River Legacy Foundation, Texas Special Olympics, and the Haltom Senior Center.
Robert Woodhouse, Waxahachie High School
Ranked in the top five percent of his class, Robert has plans to attend university this fall to pursue a degree in Youth Ministry. Robert has been giving back to his community by serving as a teacher’s aide, a member of the Mexico mission team and a volunteer at his hometown church. When not studying or volunteering his time, Robert enjoys playing soccer, running cross country, participating in music theater, and attending church.
Hannah Abernathy, Palestine High School
Salutatorian of her senior class, Hannah is involved in a plethora of activities including Student Council, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Debate Team, Schools for Schools Club and National Art Society. In addition to the many hats she wears, Hannah has won an assortment of academic accolades including student of the month, top ten academic athletes and academic all district. When Hannah is not consumed with school she finds time to give back to her community by co-directing the children's choir at her church, helping to build homes during the summer in the Rio Grande and has recently traveled with Girls in Action to Ethiopia and will be returning this summer. Hannah plans to attend university this fall to earn a degree in Biology to work towards her goal of becoming a pediatrician.
Sarah Dillard, Godley High School
Ranked in the top ten percent of her graduating class Sarah has a drive to succeed and when she is not busy studying you can find Sarah helping her community by reading to autistic children and delivering meals to those in need on Thanksgiving. Sarah is an active member of the National Honor Society and a part of the prom committee. Sarah will be attending university this fall to major in business or real estate.
Lawson Flowers, Greenville Christian School
Valedictorian of his class Lawson is no stranger to hard work and has been on the honor roll for the past three years. Lawson enjoys playing football, basketball, baseball, and the guitar. He gives back to the community by being an active member of the Boys and Girls Clubs, Women in Need, the Hope Center and Hands of Compassion. Lawson will be attending university this fall to pursue a degree that will further his ambitions of becoming a lawyer.
ReAnna Jacob, Red Oak High School
Graduating as Valedictorian of her class ReAnna has worked hard to stay at the top of her graduating class of 373 seniors. ReAnna is involved in many extracurricular activities including cross country, soccer, Spanish club, National Honor Society, and Student Council. She has also earned many accolades including student of the month, an Advanced Placement Biology award and "A" honor roll her senior year. When ReAnna is not busy with school you can find her giving back to her community by volunteering for North Ellis County as an outreach volunteer and serving as a teacher's aide. ReAnna plans to attend university this fall to earn a degree in Biology with the ambition to become a doctor.
Nhu Phan, Sam Houston High School
Graduating as Valedictorian of her class Nhu has achieved a great deal during her high school career. She has gained many accolades and is a part of several school organizations including serving as the yearbook business manager, Student Council President, National Honor Society Treasurer, mock trial lawyer, Math Club Vice-President and UIL Academics. When Nhu is not busy studying you can find her giving back to her community by volunteering at Mission Arlington and Town Hall nursing home and tutoring children at a local elementary school. Nhu plans to attend university this fall to pursue a degree in Business Management with hopes of opening an orphanage and kindergarten in Vietnam one day.
